On March 8, International Women's Day, Prof. Dr. h.c. Jutta Allmendinger, Ph.D. gave a talk at the Fondsfrauen´s digital lunchtalk. To also commemorate the hardworking Ukrainian women, she wore a sweater and blouse in Ukrainian colors.

Allmendinger is one of Germany's leading sociologists, holds a doctorate from Harvard University and has been president of the Social Science Research Center Berlin (WZB) since 2007. Last year, she was also appointed to the G7 Gender Equality Advisory Council (GEAC), which works to ensure and strengthen gender equality in the G7 countries.

Prof. Allmendinger has been researching how equality can be achieved for 30 years. Her latest book "Es geht nur gemeinsam! How we can finally achieve gender equality" is discussed at our book page

Hier einige ihrer Aussagen:

  • Women predominantly bear the burden of domestic tasks, home education and care work
  • Therefore, they work fewer paid hours than men.
  • As a result of women cutting back on their careers, women's lifetime wages are significantly reduced. Accordingly, pensions are also reduced.
  • The free coinsurance of spouses and spousal splitting are old habits that should have been cut off. They do not fit in with the shortened maintenance periods after divorce that have been in place for some time.
  • We need individual taxation.
  • Co-providing for wives in marriage puts women in a dependency that we do not want.
  • Mini-jobs should be abolished because they do not entail their own social security.

Following Prof. Allmendinger's presentation, Anne Connelly read out the numerous chat questions that were asked.

In her talk, Allmendinger called for more togetherness between women and men: "The issue of reconciling work and family life cannot be viewed in isolation from cultural structures. We have to change the framework conditions for men and women to live together. This can only be done together!"
