At our digital Lunchtalk on January 21, 2025, the topic was Storytelling in Presentations. Story coach Adriana Richter once again delivered an absolute energy boost in storytelling, while Fondsfrau Anke Dembowski asked targeted questions about how to find a good story and how to integrate it most effectively into a presentation.
Here are the key takeaways from Adriana’s Lunchtalk:
- Storytelling is powerful even in professional presentations, as the human brain loves stories and remembers them 22 times better than facts.
- Of course, the content of the presentation should be the main focus, not just the story. However, the story illustrates why the presentation is relevant to the audience.
- A good story smoothly introduces the topic. Ideally, it includes a hook to capture even more attention. The presentation should then answer these three essential questions: a) What? b) So what? c) Now what?
- It is worth taking the time to find a suitable and authentic story. Personal stories often work best—a little tip: childhood stories tend to resonate particularly well.
- In a 30-minute presentation, the story should take up no more than 3 minutes.
- The ideal placement for the story is at the beginning of the presentation. To create a well-rounded experience, it’s great to refer back to the story at the end.
We sincerely thank Adriana Richter for her inspiring impulses and ideas on Storytelling in Presentations!
A little bonus for the participants of January 21:
Adriana briefly mentioned a course participant who discusses four questions with her children every evening. The children insist on this nightly Q&A routine, even when their mother is so tired that she would rather skip it. Here are the four evening questions.
